So I had my lappy hooked up to my TV (which has a lower resolution)and the screensaver started. I unplugged the HDMI cord and the screensaver kept going  but at the the TV’s screen dimensions with the rest of my desktop visible in the margins

Resolution switching gets a bit messy sometimes.

Scr eensavers have always been a bit weird to me though. Like why not just send a blank screen, or a signal to tell the monitor to sleep. I go back to the age of single-color displays (mine was amber, but I’ve dealt with green as well), and I don’t ever remember a screen misbehaving without a signal. Maybe people misbehaved (i.e. they saw the screen was off and so hit the power button on the PC even though it was on?).

In my experience unplug hdmi cords while devices are powered up will eventually fuck up the hdmi port on the tv. Maybe the TV it happened to with me just had a shitty circuit design, but I’d recommend powering down the tv and at least putting the computer to sleep in the future.
